HedgeWeekly Stockwatch: Apple slips on margin guidance as AMD reports tonight
Apple and Palantir beat but slip after hours, AMD reports after the close, Marvell digests its Lumentum deal and Aehr jumps.
HedgeWeekly Markets Desk ·
AAPL, Apple: Fiscal fourth-quarter revenue of $114.5 billion and EPS of $2.10 beat forecasts, but December-quarter gross-margin guidance of 45% to 46% came in below estimates, citing memory-chip costs. Bull case: iPhone revenue rose 17% and Mac 24%; holiday-quarter revenue guidance of 7% to 10% growth beat consensus, Saxo said. Bear case: Greater China sales of $17.5 billion missed forecasts and Services growth guidance of 8% to 9% fell short.
PLTR, Palantir Technologies: Third-quarter revenue rose 96% to $2.31 billion against $2.18 billion expected, and adjusted EPS of $0.44 beat $0.41. The shares still slipped after hours. Bull case: US commercial revenue rose about 148% and 2026 revenue guidance was raised to $8.53 billion. Bear case: Total contract value growth slowed to 6% from 49% in the second quarter, Investing.com reported.
AMD, Advanced Micro Devices: Reports third-quarter results after today's close, with a 5 p.m. ET call. The shares fell 7.5% on Monday as chip stocks sold off. Bull case: AMD guided revenue to about $13 billion; Hudson Labs put consensus at about $13.1 billion. Bear case: A chip index lost about 12% over three sessions, XTB said, so expectations meet fragile sentiment.
MRVL, Marvell Technology: Agreed to buy optical supplier Lumentum in an all-stock deal valued at $115 billion, 4.5 Marvell shares per Lumentum share. Marvell fell 12.7% and Lumentum 18.6% on Monday. Bull case: The deal adds optical parts that AI data centres need to move data between chips. Bear case: Investors marked down both shares on the day, and the deal adds integration risk at record size.
AEHR, Aehr Test Systems: Reported record fiscal first-quarter revenue of $33 million, up 200% from a year earlier, with an effective backlog of $109.3 million. Bull case: Revenue tripled and the backlog is more than three times the quarter's sales. Bear case: It is a small chip-equipment supplier exposed to the same AI-spending swings hitting larger peers.
